Description

What is Tadalafil?

Tadalafil is a generic prescription medication containing the same active ingredient as the brand-name drug Cialis. It is used primarily to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. Tadalafil improves blood flow to certain areas of the body, helping men achieve and maintain erections during sexual activity. It is also prescribed for treating symptoms of an enlarged prostate, such as difficulty urinating, and for pulmonary arterial hypertension. Generic tadalafil contains the same active ingredient and works in exactly the same way as Cialis but is available at a lower cost.

How Does Tadalafil Work?

Tadalafil works by inhibiting the phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) enzyme, which relaxes the smooth muscles in the blood vessel walls of the penis and increases blood flow. The active ingredient tadalafil is absorbed into the bloodstream and travels to the penis, where it enhances blood flow to produce an erection when sexually stimulated. Tadalafil also relaxes muscles in the pulmonary arteries to improve blood flow in those with pulmonary arterial hypertension, and relaxes muscles in the prostate and bladder to help improve urine flow in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia.
