What is Acnecide Gel?
Acnecide Gel is an over-the-counter topical medication containing benzoyl peroxide, used primarily to treat mild to moderate acne vulgaris. It is available in two sizes, 30g and 60g, and comes in a 5% benzoyl peroxide formulation. Acnecide Gel works by killing the bacteria responsible for causing acne, reducing inflammation, and helping to unblock pores. It is applied directly to the affected areas of the skin and is suitable for use on the face, back, and chest. Acnecide Gel is one of the most widely used and clinically proven topical acne treatments available without a prescription and is suitable for adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over.
How Does Acnecide Gel Work?
Acnecide Gel works by releasing oxygen into the skin when applied, which kills the bacteria Cutibacterium acnes (formerly known as Propionibacterium acnes) that is responsible for causing acne. Benzoyl peroxide has a strong antibacterial effect and also helps to reduce inflammation and redness associated with acne breakouts. Unlike antibiotic treatments for acne such as Lymecycline and Doxycycline, benzoyl peroxide does not contribute to antibiotic resistance, making it a valuable long-term treatment option. Acnecide Gel also has a keratolytic effect, meaning it helps to break down the outer layer of skin and unblock pores, reducing the formation of blackheads and whiteheads.
Take under the guidance of a medical professional and read the instructions carefully.
